If you are like me who is a fan of the kulfi from the small ice cream shop in the corner of the petrol station in Bowring near MG Road here in Bangalore, you will wonder where the shop has gone the next time you visited it. For years, every time I go to MG Road, I would always make it a point to stop by for a kulfi in Bowring in that shop in the corner of Indian Oil petrol station. I couldn’t miss it because it was always crowded that’s why when one day I noticed that the ice cream shop...

On the corner of the 6th block opposite Sony world Koramangala is the “America’s healthiest restaurant” as they claim, the Au Bon Pain (pronunced as o-bo-pe).  Au Bon Pain started in Boston and has been selling fresh baguettes and croissants since the 70’s. Finally, it has found its way to India through Bangalore.  Their coffees are cheaper than other cafe but taste really good, though their pastries and breads have the same prices in most cafes. They use Arabica coffee...

I’m a big fan of Gouda cheese, well, most cheeses, but I found gouda cheese as best accompaniment with the cheddar cheese for pizza, cheese sandwich, spaghetti sauces, cheese and wine, and the simple cheese and crackers. Few weeks ago, there seemed to be a shortage of gouda cheese in the supermarket that I panic bought the only whole block of gouda cheese available in the cheese counter in Spar. Now, with only 3 months left before it expires, I am wondering now on how can I finish it…...

Pasta is one of my favorite ingredients. I usually use spaghetti but for a change, a fusilli or penne are great too. I occasionally cook lasagna, only when there are friends and guests around but for every day meal, a spaghetti or fusilli always comes handy and easy to cook. Last night, I had some prawns I bought last weekend, so I thought a fusilli pasta with tomato sauce would be a great dinner. I also made a garlic bread stick as a side for the pasta. As for the sauce, I just blanched the tomatoes...

My homemade red wine When a friend gave me more than a kilo of red grapes, the first thing that came to my mind was to make those dark red grapes into wine. I love wine and I’ve tried once of making my own wine last year, though not really much of a success but it turned out well. So, I thought that this time, I would make an improvement with my wine-making, and alas, it was a big improvement, the color, the smell, and the taste, it’s much better than the cheap wine I buy from the liquor shop. The...

From my last trip in Israel, I got this sachets of coffee from the airline. If you are a coffee lover, I mean not like the India way of drinking coffee, no cream or milk please, then you would like the coffee I got from the airline. It’s like the usual coffee served in the coffee shops in Middle East. Of course the smell is fantastic and the bitter taste amazing. Oh, don’t just gulp the coffee, anyways, it should be sip only :p Well, I said don’t just gulp the coffee because...

Summer has officially start with sizzling heat. So, what’s the best way to beat the heat other than staying at the comfort of the air-conditioned room? Right, the cold shake of your favorite flavor. One of the best things about shake drinks is that you can invent and experiment with the flavor. Another is just to enjoy the classic flavors such as the usual milk shake, fruit shake, vanilla ice-cream shake, and yeah, I’m going to share my recipe for this heat-buster vanilla choco ice-cream...
